Bim’bimba Park Adventure Playground, Pimpama
Dubbed ‘Bim’bimba Park’ meaning ‘Place of the Soldier Bird’ this park is located in the centre of Gainsborough Greens, in Brisbane’s southern suburb of Pimpama or north of the Gold Coast.
Set up as a community space, this park encompasses a large outdoor amphitheatre, toddler play space, table tennis (byo bat and ball) mega adventure playground with multi story curly tunnel slide, nature play, teen hangout and basketball half court – all connected by a series of entwining paths perfect for bike riding. Some of the highlights for us included the metal music gong, the animal sculptures and the spinning wheel.
Everything is nicely spread out at this park, and with lots of little spaces for different types of play, the park really encourages exploration and the use of imagination. A lot of the play equipment is centred around climbing however, which makes a lot of the equipment unsuitable for toddlers. There is a dedicated toddler playground, but this also is focused on climbing and for those not so great on their feet, it may prove too difficult for them. For those great with climbing, there are so many things to balance on, climb through and over, and hang from, you could easily make up some ninja warrior obstacle courses here.
As a newish park, the trees are only young and shade is dependent on them growing, so bring a hat and avoid the middle of the day. There are plenty of picnic shelters and water taps around to help cool down. There are no cafes on site, however there is a McDonald’s across the road if you wanted to get drive through take away before/after a play at Bim’bimba Park.
