Carlo Sandblow Cooloola Recreation Area, Great Sandy National Park Rainbow Beach
What a treat to emerge from the eucalyptus forest onto Carlo Sandblow, an impressive windblown sand with amazing views over the coast and Fraser Island.
Located in the Cooloola Recreation Area, Great Sandy National Park, on the Sunshine Coast between Noosa Heads and Rainbow Beach. You can walk from the Rainbow Beach village, but is best to drive up to the car park entrance with kids only a short easy 10 minute walk (not pram friendly).
From the top of the sandblow, enjoy stunning 180-degree views over the coloured sands that give the Rainbow Beach area its name, Double Island Point, Fraser Island and Inskip Peninsula. On our visit in the April school holidays there were lots of families exploring the natural wonder, having a picnic on the sand, taking in the views and boogie board down the sand hills. We didn’t pack any boards but a lovely Brisbane family let our kids borrow theirs to have a go, thankfully no injuries.
We were told that this is the best spot in the area with unobstructed views for a magical sunrise and sunset, its added to the to do list next time.
