Carrick Hill House and Gardens, Adelaide

Carrick Hill House and Gardens is located at the base of the Adelaide Hills in South Australia and was once home to Sir Edward and Lady Ursula Hayward. The house is fortunate to be one of the few period homes in Australia to survive with its original contents including a large collection of drawings, sculptures, antiques and paintings almost completely intact and its grounds undiminished.

Kids can explore and discover the Story Book Trail with a short walk through the themed gardens based on classic children’s tales. Along a sandy track that weaves past ponds and through groves of trees, children can following the story books of the Wind in the Willows, The Hobbit, The Secret Garden, The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, Charlotte’s Web, The Magic Faraway Tree and more.

There’s also the family friendly Carrick Hill Café, situated in what was once the garage of the House offering bakery, breads, coffee and light dining options using fresh, seasonal produce.
