Elephant Rock Gold Coast, Currumbin Beach
Elephant Rock is a locally loved spot for beachgoers and surfers, the rock formation is located on the shore of Currumbin Beach and is the remains of ancient volcanic activity (pretty cool history for kids).
There are two rock sites to explore, one beside the Vikings Surf Club where you can climb the stairs to a platform at the top of the rock for views of Surfers Paradise in the north and Coolangatta in the south. On our visit we opted for the rocks closest to Currumbin Creek Estuary to have a swim after (the Alley is a great calm swimming spot for kids or those learning to surf).
We arrived mid morning on our visit and the tide was perfect for discovering the rock pools, my 9, 6 & 3 year olds all loved searching in the water holes for crabs and fish, we even spotted a pod of dolphins in the distance. I could just imagine how spectacular this point would be at sunrise or sunset.
Just the place to stop if you are on the way to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary or Gold Coast airport.
