Gold Coast Sand Safari Arts Festival, Surfers Paradise

The best sand sculptors from around the world will transform the Surfers Paradise foreshore into a fairy tale wonderland when the annual Sand Safari Arts Festival returns to the Gold Coast this month.

Little Red Riding Hood, Pinocchio, Cinderella and The Little Mermaid will be among many of the fairy tale favourites to emerge from the sand during the 17-day celebration, along with several large-scale immersive experiences that allow visitors to capture the ultimate family photo opportunity.

In 2020 the biggest sand sculpture in the festival’s history will be brought to life as a giant-sized scene from Jack and the Beanstalk is carved out of a staggering 45 tonne of sand.

Running from February 14 to March 1, the Sand Safari Arts Festival is once again home to the Australian Sand Sculpting Championships, where 15 talented sculptors, including three highly acclaimed international competitors will showcase their skills across three days from Friday February 14 – Sunday February 16 as they bid to design and intricately carve an enchanting fairy tale scene.

In a Sand Safari Arts Festival first, the event will also host ‘Sand Talk – The Art of Conversation’, an immersive art experience aimed at sparking conversations about mental health and support across each day of the festival before culminating in Sand Talk Community Day on Sunday February 23, a free community day presented by Hot Tomato that will see a spectacular human art installation come to life on the sands of Surfers Paradise Beach.
