Ipswich Art Gallery
Ipswich Art Gallery is an ever-changing gold mine of exhibitions from local artists hanging from the walls, and also historical pieces from artists. More importantly, for the Bump Into Mum’s crowd, the art gallery is known for its excellent school holiday programs and performances and their Children’s Gallery, which is the first permanent interactive gallery for children that are under 12.
The Children’s Gallery is a spacious area filled with light and art created by the children. The current creative space has Spirograph’s, paint trays that you use wind-up toys with paint brushes attached, drawing machines and a rice area where you create shapes out of rice and shape boards.
The exhibitions on display are light and fun and currently feature Simon MacEwan, William Yaxley, and Anna Carey. My suggestion would be to not just take your child to the Children’s Gallery, but also walk through the other exhibitions. Ask them how they see the paintings and photos. You will be pleasantly surprised with their interpretations.
