Macintosh Island Peacock Park and Playground, Main Beach
Macintosh Island Park, also known as ‘Peacock Park’ by some and now my kids, is a great hidden gem in the middle of Main Beach on the Gold Coast. An oasis in the midst of the city high rise buildings, this park is a sanctuary for many families all year round.
Macintosh Island Park is a very popular spot for family picnics or celebrations with friends. The large park offers sealed pathways great for prams, scooters or bikes, waterfalls, a running rocky creek bed to explore, ornamental bridges, barbecue facilities, Big Foots cave with the sleeping giant inside, and is home to several birds including Geese, Ibis aka bin chickens and the majestic peacocks that have become a tourist attraction in the park.
There are two children’s playgrounds in the park with several slides, swings, see-saw and climbing equipment. The playgrounds also have sand underneath and a shade sail providing protection from hot sunny days.
We caught the light rail tram up from Surfers Paradise to the Tedder Ave, Main Beach stop, then just a short walk up Gold Coast Highway.
