Sandstone Caves Walking Track Pilliga National Park, Dandry
Driving through Coonabarabran, in country New South Wales a lovely local suggested we stop to see the Sandstone Caves at Pilliga National Park and my what a surprisingly beautiful place it was to stretch our legs.
The 1.7km loop walking track takes families on a self-guided tour along the Sandstone Caves where you’ll pass through scenic bush to the impressive sandstone hills, with some of the walls and caves containing ancient Aboriginal rock art and engravings.
There are interpretive signage at each spot for more insight on the indigenous history and how special this place was to the Gamilaroi people.
The walk is easy, mostly flat with unsealed pathways (not good for prams) my two year old walked most the way and took us roughly 45minutes to 1 hour stopping and admiring all the beautiful spots. There is a toilet along the way also so no need for a bush wee.
Open 7am – 7pm daily.
