Taronga Western Plains Zoo, Dubbo
With over 300 hectares of wild and wonderful bushland and over 700 animals, Taronga Western Plains Zoo offers a safari adventure right in the heart of NSW.
Taronga Western Plains Zoo is home to some of the world’s exotic animals including big cats, Giraffe, Rhinoceros, Cheetah, Meerkats, elephants, hippopotamus and many more. Find yourself surrounded by magnificent wildlife on wide open plains (yes the enclosures are huge!).
You do need to drive your own car, loan bikes (bring you own also welcome) or hire a self drive buggy kart, we opted for this, easier to get on and off with small kids around the zoo, we wouldn’t recommend walking as its over 5km with many smaller pathways to animal enclosures.
There’s an awesome safari themed adventure playground near the ticket office and cafe, which is free to visit if you’re just driving through Dubbo and need to stretch the legs, it would be a great spot to stop, or stay at one of the lodges, cabins or camping tents overnight, we wish we had!
